ASAP Program

The After School and Advocacy Program (ASAP) offers a safe and nurturing environment for children in the 1st through 5th grades to receive help on homework and participate in enrichment activities. Children typically attend the program five days per week, from 3:30 – 7:00 p.m. NCFC's staff provide daily instruction in a variety of subject areas from language arts to math to science to art. Additionally, NCFC recruits volunteers to serve as tutors. Tutors typically work with the same children each week during the time they have chosen to volunteer. Twenty to forty-five students attend ASAP each day and are assisted by a team of staff, work-study students, and volunteers.

NCFC makes every effort to provide transportation to our center for registered students. Don't let distance deter you from registering your child.

A typical day progresses as follows:

3:30 - 4:15 PM
Participants arrive and are provided with a nutritious snack. Students put their personal items away and have a brief amount of recreation time. Based on the weather, students may participate in recreation in lieu of the first class.

4:15 - 6:15 PM
Students are broken into groups by age and academic ability level. Students have three (3) classes daily ranging from math, reading, science, social studies, and art. During these classes, NCFC staff and classroom assistants work to build the skills necessary for students to succeed academically. NCFC focuses on filling in the learning gaps experienced by students as they progress through the educational system. It is our goals to have each child progress to performing on grade level.

6:15 - 7:00 PM
Students begin homework help and individualized tutoring. Students identified as in need of additional remediation are enrolled in our intensive tutorial program that operates Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
